JOB DESCRIPTION

This position performs manual labor and physically sorts through the incoming waste at the Landfill.

Training and Experience

Minimum Experience: High School education or G.E.D. preferred and one-year experience in maintenance work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience

Professional Licenses/mandatory requirements

Possession of a valid Florida Operators License preferred.

SALARY: $ 15.45 per hour plus benefits

• Some knowledge of simple tools used in maintenance
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
• Ability to learn to operate front-end loader and trucks on a trainee basis
• Ability to cross train for other positions within the department

Essential Functions

• Performs manual labor in the sorting of wood and yard waste, metal, liquids, and tires from the Class I disposal area
• Does a variety of maintenance work not requiring specialized knowledge and skills; removing litter from roadsides, rakes and cleans, cuts grass and weeds with hand tools and mowers
• Work is performed under the immediate direction of a supervisor
• Required to work during a local declared state of emergency

Non -Essential Functions

Performs related work as required. Occasionally operates front-end loader and or dump truck.  Performs light maintenance on vehicles such as checking and adding fuel, oil, water and air, changes tires, cleans and washes vehicles or equipment.

Work Environment

Majority of tasks are performed outdoors and very frequently in extreme weather conditions. Subjected to insects, noxious fumes, and frequent noise.

Essential Physical Skills/Demands

Will use both hands simultaneously while standing and leaning over at the waist, required to do frequent walking, constant pushing, pulling, twisting and bending; frequent lifting of (10) ten to (50) fifty pounds. Position requires oral communication, which also involves adequate eyesight and hearing to safely perform the activities.
